In 2025, the Roadrunners mark their 15th football season. As one of the younger FBS programs, UTSA is competing in its third year as part of the American Conference. The team began its journey from the ground up, holding its first practice year in 2010 before debuting as an FCS Independent in 2011.
UTSA joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2012 and transitioned to Conference USA the following year, becoming a full FBS member by 2014. The Roadrunners quickly gained attention in 2011 by setting NCAA modern startup records, drawing 56,743 fans to their inaugural game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 attendees across six home games.
