Canadians planning to travel to the United States in the coming days may face disruptions due to potential flight cancellations connected to a U.S. government shutdown.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned that flights could be reduced at 40 airports nationwide if the shutdown continues. An FAA source told CNN that major “Core 30” high-traffic airports will be affected.
“Core 30 high-traffic airports will be among those impacted,” an FAA source told CNN.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that flight volumes would drop by about 10 percent but did not clarify whether this refers to specific airports or all U.S. flights. The ongoing shutdown has forced 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers and 13,000 air traffic controllers to continue working without pay.
“Flight volumes will be reduced by ten percent,” said Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.
Major Canadian airlines, including Air Canada, WestJet, Air Transat, and Flair Airlines, reported no current impact on their flights. They continue to monitor developments closely.
An Air Canada spokesperson told Daily Hive that the airline is awaiting further details on the planned reductions.
Canadian airlines are watching closely as a U.S. government shutdown threatens to cause flight cuts at dozens of major American airports, potentially affecting travelers heading south.
