A chilly weather system is expected to sweep into the Chicago area this weekend, likely bringing the first snow of the 2025–26 winter season. Meteorologists predict the cold front will arrive by Saturday evening, dramatically lowering temperatures.
“By the time everybody wakes up Monday morning, wind chills for the Chicago area will probably be like 10 to 15 degrees above zero,” said a meteorologist.
Temperatures will remain in the 50s and 60s through Friday and part of Saturday before dropping into the 30s as the cold front moves in. Rain is forecast for Saturday, possibly turning to a mix of rain and snow overnight.
The National Weather Service reports that snowfall accumulation should remain minimal — around half an inch — mostly limited to grassy areas, bridges, and overpasses.
“It looks like any accumulation of snow we see Sunday morning will probably just be on grassy surfaces and maybe bridges and overpasses,” said Casey Sullivan, a weather service meteorologist. “Probably 60, 70 percent chance of snow there Sunday morning, but it doesn’t really look like it’s going to be too impactful.”
Sunday’s high temperatures are expected to reach the mid-30s, with winds between 15 and 25 miles per hour and gusts up to 30. The National Weather Service describes Sunday as a brisk, windy day.
“It’s going to be a cold, windy, blustery day on Sunday,” Sullivan said.
A strong cold front arriving this weekend will drop Chicago’s temperatures sharply and likely bring a light, non-disruptive first snowfall of the season.
