Pettersson Shines on NHL Debut

Elias Pettersson made an outstanding NHL debut, scoring a goal just 13 minutes and 48 seconds into his first game for the Vancouver Canucks against the Calgary Flames. The young forward then provided an assist for the team’s second goal, contributing to a 5–2 victory in their season opener.

Pettersson’s sharp start came as no surprise to followers of his European career. Before joining the Canucks, he had a remarkable season with the Växjö Lakers in the Swedish Hockey League, capturing the SHL title and several individual awards in Sweden.

Only 19 years old at the time, Pettersson also guided Växjö to the final of the Champions Hockey League (CHL). During that campaign, he wore the LGT Top Scorer Jersey for much of the season, scoring six goals across 11 CHL appearances. His consistent performances on both domestic and international ice showcased the talent that made him a top draft pick for Vancouver.

“Our cameras also went up to Växjö to see how the fifth overall draft pick was getting on in his first CHL and SHL season.”
