Audible launched The Pillars, a 15,000-square-foot retail and community center, in Newark's Arts & Education District, aiming to boost local business development.
The unveiling event took place in October at 33 Washington St., attracting a lively crowd energized by the new space. Attendees included Mayor Ras Baraka, Audible CEO Bob Carrigan, Newark Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz, and local business owners occupying three of the four retail units at The Pillars.
The redeveloped space serves as a neighborhood anchor designed to attract local businesses, visitors, and community members, fostering growth in Newark.
"The Pillars marks Audible’s most ambitious investment yet in Newark’s future — and the largest philanthropic contribution in the company’s history. It’s also the first major investment in the city I’ve greenlit in my nearly six years as CEO."
— Bob Carrigan, Audible CEO
Bob Carrigan became CEO in 2019, succeeding Audible founder Don Katz.
The Pillars is located on the ground floor at 33 Washington St., Newark.
"The energy at the late morning event was clear from the gaggle gathered, the smiling faces and the enthusiastic response from the crowd at The Pillars."
