Aurora Receives Approval for Warning Device Exemption
Aurora, an autonomous trucking company, announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has approved its warning device exemption.
About a year ago, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) denied a similar request, prompting Aurora to file a lawsuit against FMCSA, stating that the decision
“stifles innovation and would impede the development of the autonomous trucking industry for no valid or lawful reason”.
Now, Aurora has received permission to use warning beacons mounted on the truck cab instead of traditional warning devices. The company plans to withdraw its lawsuit, stating that it has received approval to
“begin using cab-mounted warning beacons as an alternative to reflective triangles”.
Aurora's announcement marks a significant development in the autonomous trucking industry.
