HarperCollins Signs Groundbreaking Exposé of Global Fertility Industry

HarperCollins imprint Mudlark has acquired Cash Cow: How the Maternal Body Became a Global Commodity – and the Hidden Costs for Women by journalist Alev Scott.

The book, acquired by HarperNonFiction publishing director Huw Armstrong, will be published in hardback, e-book, and audiobook on February 26, 2026.

The global fertility industry is rapidly growing, hugely profitable and morally complex. This is an industry where one person’s biological bad luck can be another person’s financial gain.

The book explores the commodification of the maternal body, from egg freezing to black-market breastmilk, and lifts the lid on the IVF, surrogacy, and milk industries.

Author summary: Exposing the dark side of the global fertility industry.
