How Alcohol Ads in Your Feed May Lead to Alcohol in Your Glass

Impact of Alcohol Ads on Social Media

A meta-analysis by Rutgers Health found a link between digital alcohol marketing and increased drinking among teens and young adults.

Teens and young adults who see alcohol promotions on social media are more likely to drink and binge drink, according to a review of 31 studies.

“There’s growing evidence that it’s not how long you spend on social media but what content you see that affects you,”

said Jon-Patrick Allem, associate professor at Rutgers School of Public Health. The study found that exposure to alcohol promotions online is associated with alcohol use across different contexts and populations.

Author's summary: Alcohol ads on social media increase drinking odds among teens and young adults.
