Libya’s Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, has ordered the detention of Ali Al-Abed, the Acting Minister of Education, pending investigation into alleged irregularities in the management of contracts for printing school textbooks.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, an inquiry into the contracting procedures for schoolbook printing uncovered violations that harmed the public interest and infringed on the right to education.
The decision to detain Al-Abed was prompted by the findings of the inquiry, which revealed negligence in the management of contracts for the 2025/2026 academic year.
