This Day in History: Orpheum Theatre Revived
In 1977, the MALCO theater downtown stopped running movies, marking the start of downtown Memphis' historic revival.
The theater, now known as the Orpheum, was sold to the Malco chain in 1940. It stopped running movies in 1977 and began hosting Broadway productions and concerts.
The Orpheum remains a symbol of Memphis' entertainment history.
