DJ Carey Jailed for Fraud and Forgery
DJ Carey, a 54-year-old former Irish hurler, has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison for multiple counts of fraud and forgery.
According to Judge Martin Nolan,
he could not think of a more heinous scam, as Carey took advantage of people's kindness by falsely claiming he had cancer and needed money for treatment.
- Carey defrauded 22 people out of approximately €400,000.
- Over €44,000 has been reimbursed to the victims.
Carey's defence attorney stated that he had experienced a dramatic decline and was now considered a pariah.
Carey had entered a guilty plea, eliminating the need for a jury trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
