Challenges to Monroe's Mayor Friday Ellis
A lawsuit was filed against Monroe independent Mayor Friday Ellis by three Democrats on the City Council and local publisher Roosevelt Wright.
The lawsuit also targets Republicans Gov. Liz Murrill and new Monroe fire chief Timothy Williams.
- The selection of Williams by Landry for his post is a point of contention, made possible by a new state law.
- Ellis had previously nominated Williams for the position, but the City Council, led by Democrats, twice turned him down for conflicting reasons.
As previously threatened, the three Democrats on the City Council, plus local publisher Roosevelt Wright, filed suit against Ellis.
