England has announced its 19-man squad for the final Ashes Test against Australia at Headingley, with Joe Burgess making a notable return to international rugby league after over a decade.
Following defeats in the first two matches of the three-test series, head coach Shaun Wane is reshuffling the team for the last game. Joe Burgess, who last played for England in 2015, earned his spot back after a stellar season with Hull KR, contributing significantly to their Treble-winning success.
Wane, who coached Burgess at Wigan Warriors, commented:
"It's a credit to him, he has a new lease of life at Hull KR. I am so happy to be able to give him a start. That means something to me."
"I like him - he is a personality and we need more of them, we are just guiding him in a certain way."
"I don't think we should shackle him. I like him showing his personality."
Australia has made a single squad change with captain Isaah Yeo returning after missing the second Test because of a head injury. Consequently, Lindsay Collins moves to the bench.
With the series already decided in Australia’s favor, the Leeds Test is mainly about pride.
Author's summary: Joe Burgess' revival highlights England's lineup reshuffle ahead of the third Ashes Test, while Australia makes minimal changes with captain Isaah Yeo returning from injury.
