Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty, who portrayed half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott on the popular series One Tree Hill, recently shared their memories with PEOPLE for the Sexiest Man Alive issue. The show, which aired from 2003 to 2012, followed the complex relationship between their characters on the River Court basketball team.
While Lucas and Nathan were often at odds on screen, the actors' relationship was very different behind the scenes. They frequently made each other laugh during filming, creating a positive atmosphere throughout the show's run.
“The only times I couldn’t stop laughing were when I was shooting scenes with him,” says Lafferty, 40.
“It was only good times,” adds Murray, 44. “Really, really good times.”
The two reunited to discuss One Tree Hill's deeper lore and weigh in on the ongoing debate between the fan-favorite couples "Naley" and "Leyton."
James Lafferty shared how playing basketball in high school helped him connect authentically with his character Nathan Scott. Chad Michael Murray, on the other hand, admitted to struggling during his initial basketball audition and sought coaching to improve.
“During auditions I had to play one-on-one and failed miserably. I immediately got a basketball coach for the summer,” Murray revealed.
“I played basketball in high school and I was not much older than the actual character, so it was right up my alley,” Lafferty added.
