In the lead-up to Remembrance Day, Avanti West Coast joined forces with Poppyscotland and the Royal British Legion to create and transport a commemorative poppy wreath from Glasgow to London. The initiative honors veterans and promotes the Poppy Appeal.
Throughout the journey, veterans, reservists, and volunteers assembled the wreath aboard the train, which was specially decorated by Alstom. The Pendolino 390151 featured a poppy motif and was named Unknown Soldier. The train made thirteen stops en route to London, where veterans and supporters presented smaller poppy tributes.
The journey began in Glasgow at 8 a.m., where an Avanti veteran placed the first tribute on the wreath. Representatives from various organisations joined along the way until its arrival at London Euston, where a welcome event awaited. The completed wreath was then brought to the station’s memorial.
“The Poppy Express is a journey of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude – a moving tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our democratic freedoms and way of life. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of passengers, partners, and colleagues at Avanti West Coast who make this special service possible.”
