Ceremonies are planned in several local cities to honor Remembrance Day and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served. On November 11, most federal services and federally regulated businesses, including banks and postal services, will be closed.
An event commemorating Indigenous Veteran’s Day will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King St.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton said in a news release.
The event at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by refreshments and snacks “with an Indigenous flavour.” Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.
The city’s garrison parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. on November 9, followed by a service at 10:45 a.m. The parade will include Hamilton veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps, starting at the John Foote V.C. N. and proceeding south to Gore Park on King Street East. The service will be held at Veteran’s Place in Gore Park.
