With nearly all votes counted in the City of Glen Cove, Pam Panzenbeck is poised to secure a third term as mayor. She leads with 56.42% of the vote against Democratic challenger Marsha Silverman, according to the Nassau County Board of Elections.
Though early counts suggested Republicans might dominate the council with a 4-2 majority, the final numbers indicate a deadlock with three Democrats and three Republicans sharing seats.
“We’re pretty confident in my race; it’s the council that will have to pan out,” Panzenbeck told a crowd of Republican supporters at the Knights of Columbus after the initial Election Day results.
Despite a strong campaign by Democrats, Panzenbeck received nearly 900 more votes than Silverman. The mayor-elect expressed her excitement:
“The thrill of winning never gets old,” she said at the Coral House in Baldwin during a gathering of Nassau County Republicans after early voting ballots were included.
Silverman described the results as “unfortunate” but accepted the voters’ choice.
The race for mayor in Glen Cove ends with Pam Panzenbeck securing a third term, while the city council is expected to remain evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.
Author’s note: Pam Panzenbeck’s strong lead underscores voter confidence in her leadership, even as the city council remains politically balanced.
