James Overy, a promising 17-year-old full back at Manchester United, has been included in Australia’s squad for upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Venezuela. Although Overy has not yet appeared in senior matches for the Premier League club, he was part of Australia's squad in the recent under-20 World Cup.
Born in Perth, Overy joined Manchester United’s academy last year. He is one of seven uncapped players named in the 26-man squad announced on Friday, as coach Tony Popovic aims to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America.
These players will compete for their first international caps in the matches scheduled for November 14 against Venezuela in Houston and November 18 against Colombia in New York.
Germany-based Jackson Irvine returns to the squad after an eight-month absence caused by foot surgery and a recent quadriceps injury.
Coach Tony Popovic has also welcomed back midfielders Jackson Irvine and Riley McGree from their injuries, aiming to build squad depth during the second-last international window before the World Cup.
