Remembrance Day Observances Outlined

The annual campaign to support war veterans, widows, and soldiers was launched this week with the presentation of a poppy to the Governor. Andrew Murdoch received the symbolic poppy from the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Honorary Colonel David Gibbons, marking the start of Bermuda’s Poppy Appeal.

This appeal raises funds for former and serving soldiers in need. Poppies will be available at various locations around Hamilton today and tomorrow.

Remembrance Day Parade Details

Residents were reminded that the Remembrance Day parade will be held on Tuesday to honor those who fell in the two world wars and other Allied Forces campaigns. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. on Front Street.

Wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph by Mr. Murdoch, Premier David Burt, and other dignitaries.

Ceremony Support and Participants

A government spokeswoman stated:

“The Royal Bermuda Regiment, celebrating its 60th anniversary, will support the ceremony with a guard on parade and will be joined by the Bermuda Police Service, the sea cadets, and the Royal Bermuda Regiment Junior Leaders."
“Music for the ceremony will be provided by the RBR Band and Corps of Drums, Somerset Brigade Band, Salvation Army Divisional Band, North Village Band, and Bermuda Islands Pipe Band.”

Traffic Advisory

The parade will cause road closures on Tuesday morning. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
