Not all the memorable moments from NBC's Wicked: One Wonderful Night special were shown on television. Although the two-hour event aired on November 6, it was recorded live at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood in September.
The taping lasted about four hours, allowing for many onstage performances, cast interviews, and previews of the upcoming Wicked: For Good film to be filmed. However, several moments were omitted from the broadcast.
The show began with “No One Mourns the Wicked,” featuring the audience as citizens of Oz chanting, “Good news! She’s dead!” During the song, they also threw bouquets of flowers when Ariana Grande appeared as Glinda.
Choreographer Chris Scott gave the audience a brief lesson on the dance moves before the performance. According to reports, multiple attempts were needed to perfect the flower toss, with Scott encouraging, “Put your body into it!”
In the televised version, Marissa Bode, who played Nessarose, introduced the song “Defying Gravity” by saying,
“Wicked is filled with so many incredible songs, but there is one that stands out.”
This introduction was part of the moments trimmed from the final broadcast.
The edits were likely made to fit the two-hour runtime and maintain a streamlined viewing experience.
The televised version of NBC’s Wicked: One Wonderful Night special trimmed many engaging moments from the live taping, including audience choreography lessons and encore performances, shaping a concise but incomplete event.
