Lucy Liu has embraced a fresh look with her new lob haircut, showcased in the upcoming drama Rosemead. The “Charlie’s Angels” alum appears with a short, side-parted style just above her collarbone in the film’s trailer.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The story centers on Irene (Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate life following Joe's schizophrenia diagnosis.
The movie is adapted from a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
This role represents a shift for Liu from her usual light-hearted and action-oriented work, which includes titles like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu discussed her fascination with projects like Rosemead during an interview with Parade, emphasizing the emotional depth and complexity involved.
Lucy Liu’s new haircut symbolizes her transition into more dramatic roles, highlighted by her compelling portrayal in Rosemead, a film tackling challenging mental health themes.
