Senator Erin Grall has filed a bill to strengthen parental rights over minors' health care, specifically regarding sexually transmissible diseases and contraception.
The proposed bill, SB 166, would require minors to obtain their guardians' permission to receive treatment for STDs or information on contraception.
According to the bill, licensed health care professionals can still examine minors for STDs without parental approval, but treatment would require a guardian's consent.
"The consent of a parent or guardian of a minor is not a prerequisite for an examination; however, the consent of a parent or guardian is required for treatment,"
reads Grall's legislation.
