Billionaires have invested over $22 million in campaigns to defeat Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral race.
Despite this, New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani remains a strong contender, ahead of Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
Opposition from American Elites
Mamdani's campaign has attracted opposition from prominent American billionaires, including Michael Bloomberg, Bill Ackman, and Richard Kurtz.
"Billionaires like Bill Ackman and Ronald Lauder have poured millions of dollars into this race because they say we pose an existential threat,"
Mamdani stated, "I am here to admit something, they are right."
Financial Backing
- Bill Ackman, billionaire hedge fund manager, has spent around $1.75 million to support groups opposing Mamdani.
- Ronald Lauder, heir to the Estée Lauder cosmetics fortune, has invested around $750,000.
