A fatal crash occurred near Exit 3 on Sunday, October 12, after a driver allegedly entered I-787 going the wrong way, according to the New York State Police (NYSP).
The driver was heading southbound in the northbound lanes when it collided with another vehicle going north. The driver of the northbound vehicle was declared dead at the scene.
The driver who was allegedly going the wrong way was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to NYSP.
NYSP confirmed that this is one of two serious crashes they are investigating that happened on Sunday morning. All northbound lanes on I-787 between I-87 (Thruway) and Exit 3 are closed and will remain so until 12 p.m.
