China dams huge river twice in 1 day to build a pair of mega hydropower stations

China's Engineering Feat: Damming a River Twice in One Day

China has achieved a remarkable engineering feat by damming a huge river in two spots in just one day, marking the first step in the construction of two mega hydropower stations in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

The project, which includes the Mengdigou and Yagen Stage I hydropower stations, is expected to generate electricity equivalent to 3.5 million tonnes of coal annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 9 million tonnes each year.

This marks the first time in the Yalong River that two hydropower stations have achieved a synchronised blockade, representing a new breakthrough in the construction of the country’s first water-solar-wind integrated base.

Upon completion, the project is expected to make a significant contribution to reducing annual emissions.

Author's summary: China's mega hydropower project reduces emissions.
