A G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm is currently underway, triggered by the lasting effects of a coronal mass ejection (CME). The G3 threshold was reached at 06/0527 UTC.
Another CME is projected to reach Earth as soon as Thursday evening, November 6 (EST), potentially prolonging geomagnetic instability.
An R3-level radio blackout occurred on November 4 at approximately 12:34 EST, originating from solar Region 4274. The last R3 event of this magnitude was observed on June 19 of this year.
“A G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm is in progress. The G3 threshold was reached at 06/0527 UTC due to persistent CME influence.”
NOAA’s Space Weather center reports that solar activity is significantly elevated, with strong geomagnetic and radio storm events observed in early November.
Author’s summary: Solar activity continues to intensify, with Earth-facing CME impacts and radio disturbances marking early November’s heightened space weather conditions.
