Carrie Bickmore Named 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria

Carrie Bickmore, a well-known broadcaster and passionate advocate for brain cancer research, has been named the 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria. The award was presented at a ceremony in Melbourne on November 6, honoring her remarkable impact on brain cancer awareness and fundraising.

A Legacy of Advocacy

Bickmore’s dedication to combating brain cancer is both personal and deeply felt. Since 2015, her initiatives have raised more than $27 million to fund research programs aimed at developing new treatments and moving closer to a cure.

Her efforts led to the creation of The Brain Cancer Centre in 2021, a pioneering facility designed to bring together leading scientists and medical experts in the field. The center has backed numerous studies nationwide and initiated significant clinical trials that have advanced the understanding of brain cancer therapies.

“This progress is vital, as brain cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Australians under 40,” Bickmore stated, reflecting on her personal loss when her husband, Greg, passed away from the disease in 2010.

Recognizing Other Inspiring Australians

Alongside Bickmore’s recognition, Bryan Lipmann AM, a long-term advocate for the elderly and homeless, has been named the 2026 Senior Australian of the Year for Victoria, acknowledging his decades of service and compassion.
