Toronto police have charged an 18-year-old woman in a suspected hate-motivated assault on a TTC subway train last month. The incident occurred around 1:16 a.m. on October 21 at Bloor-Yonge station.
Investigators report that the woman allegedly approached a passenger on the train, directed homophobic slurs at the person, and then sprayed a noxious substance.
"The victim sustained minor injuries, while the accused fled the scene."
Authorities stated that the suspect and the victim did not know each other.
Following an investigation, Toronto resident Valentina Ponte Diaz, 18, was arrested on Wednesday. She faces charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, and administering a noxious thing with intent. The accused is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
Police confirmed that the case is being investigated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.
