Wane makes two changes to England squad for third and final Australia Test

Wane Adjusts England Squad for Final Ashes Test

England head coach Shaun Wane has made two changes to his 19-man squad for the third and final Ashes Test against Australia on Saturday. The team welcomes Hull KR winger Joe Burgess and Leeds Rhinos centre Harry Newman, who are both vying for their first England caps in this autumn’s series.

Team Changes and Player Returns

Burgess and Newman join the squad as replacements for the injured Dom Young, sidelined with a broken foot sustained during last week’s 14-4 loss in the second Test, and Wigan Warriors star Jake Wardle. Burgess, originally from Wigan, is set to make his first England appearance in a decade since his last cap during the 2015 series win over New Zealand. Newman participated in England’s 2-0 series victory against Samoa last year.

Leigh Leopards forward Owen Trout and St Helens hooker Daryl Clark might also be considered this week, after serving as 18th and 19th men in the previous match. John Bateman remains out due to an ankle injury sustained before the second Test.

Outlook for the Final Match

Despite Australia having already clinched the Ashes series with one game remaining, Wane’s squad is resolute in ending the series positively at a packed AMT Headingley stadium.

“Of course, we are disappointed not to be going into this final game with the opportunity to win the Ashes, but the goal now is to come away from the series with a victory,” said Wane. “We did a lot of good things last week, but ultimately, we need to be even better if we want to get a win this weekend.”

The team aims to build on last week’s efforts and improve further for a strong finish.

Summary

Shaun Wane has refreshed England’s squad with two new players as they prepare to conclude the Ashes series, focusing on securing a final victory despite Australia’s series win.
