Glenn Close has admitted that before auditioning for one of her most famous roles in the 1987 thriller Fatal Attraction, she took a Valium to calm her nerves. The award-winning actress, now 78, reflected on the experience while speaking with her co-stars during an episode of The Kardashians.
“I was so nervous I took a Valium,”
Close recalled, explaining that she wasn’t quite herself that day. Known for her versatility in films like 101 Dalmatians, Dangerous Liaisons, and Hillbilly Elegy, she remains particularly celebrated for her portrayal of Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction, a woman driven to obsession after an affair ends.
While discussing the film, Close shared how unexpectedly intense the process had been. At the time, she was performing on Broadway and had to let her understudy take over so she could fly to Los Angeles for the audition. She arrived with her hair, as she described it, wild and unstyled.
“I was doing a play on Broadway and had to let my understudy go on. My hair was long, wild, and crazy. I thought, ‘What am I going to do with my hair?’ Then I just said, ‘Oh, forget it — I’ll go like that.’”
The actress noted that because she was unfamiliar with the medication, its effect hit her harder than expected. Her decision to take it, she said, showed how deeply anxious she had been to secure the role.
“I don’t take Valiums, so the fact that I took one meant it was serious,”
she told her fellow All’s Fair co-stars, including Kim Kardashian, as they watched the film together.
Glenn Close revealed she took a Valium before her Fatal Attraction audition to manage extreme nerves, recalling the experience as both unsettling and unforgettable.
