Varun Chakaravarthy claimed the prized wicket of Glenn Maxwell during the fourth T20I match between India and Australia at Carrara Oval in Queensland on Thursday, November 6. The leg-spinner sent Maxwell back for just 2 runs, leaving Australia struggling at 103/6.
The dismissal occurred in the 15th over of Australia’s run chase. Varun bowled a googly, which deceived Maxwell. Despite giving himself room to play the ball on the offside, Maxwell missed it entirely. The ball hit the top of the off-stump before being caught by the wicketkeeper.
Varun Chakaravarthy finished with figures of 1/26 in his four overs. The World No. 1 T20I bowler has taken five wickets so far in the series and has accumulated 26 wickets in 15 matches this year.
At the time of writing, Australia was 116/8 after 17 overs, with Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis at the crease. Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar each claimed two wickets. Apart from Maxwell, Dube also dismissed Tim David for 14 runs off nine balls.
India batted first and posted 167/8 in their 20 overs. Vice-captain Shubman Gill led the innings with 46 runs off 39 balls, including one six and four boundaries. Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, and captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed scores in the twenties. Axar Patel closed the innings with an unbeaten 21 off 11 deliveries.
"Varun Chakaravarthy's clinical bowling helped India maintain the upper hand in the match."
Varun’s match-turning spell showcased his skill and reinforced his status as a top-ranked T20I bowler, leaving Australia under pressure.
