Three Tomato Sauces Recalled in US Due to Botulism Risk

First and Last Bakery, a Connecticut-based company, has recalled three tomato pasta sauces after state regulators identified a potential botulism hazard caused by improper processing.

Details of the Recall

The 26-ounce jars were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts between September 22 and October 28, 2025. All recalled products carry a “Use By 09/26” date.

First and Last Bakery's products “were manufactured without an approved scheduled process or otherwise evaluated to determine if the process is adequate.”

Health Risks and Safety Measures

Incorrectly processed acidified or low-acid canned foods can promote the growth of Clostridium botulinum toxin. Although rare, botulism targets the nervous system and can be fatal in 5–10 percent of cases.

So far, no illnesses related to this recall have been reported.

The FDA stated the company has suspended production and sales to “ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements.”
