Women's outdoor groups in Bellingham are emerging as vital spaces for people of all ages and abilities to come together, foster community, build confidence, and deepen their connection to nature.

Groups like the Wander Women Adventure Group, Sisterhood of the Trail, and Trail Sisters share a common goal: to empower women in the outdoors.

Wander Women Adventure Group

Founded in the spring, the Wander Women Adventure Group quickly gained popularity after its first meetup, drawing women of all ages and backgrounds from across Bellingham.

The group was launched by Jen Gallant, who retired from her long-time career at the Whatcom Family YMCA, where she led Girls on the Run, a program that empowers young girls through running.

Empower women in recreation

Gallant accepted a job at Fairhaven Runners after retiring, but was hesitant about retirement, which led her to start the Wander Women Adventure Group.
