Deputies are searching for Kofi Amartei Opoku Nkromah, 39, of Rebecca Lane in Moncks Corner. The incident happened just before 6 a.m. when a deputy stopped Nkromah on Old Mill Road near St. Stephen for failing to maintain lanes and disregarding a stop sign.

During the stop, investigators say Nkromah gave false information about his identity. When deputies tried to detain him, he assaulted a deputy and ran away on foot.

The injured deputy received treatment for injuries sustained during the altercation.
