Known for her roles in acclaimed series like The Bay, Claws, and The Chi, Tran has established herself as a familiar face in American entertainment.
Just a week ago, the 37-year-old garnered attention for her striking look and bold presence at a Variety event. Despite her continued success, she admitted that the road to achievement has presented numerous challenges.
Stepping into a New Role
In her latest romantic comedy, Preach, Pray, Love, Tran stars as Charlie Jones, a rapper with fierce energy and unapologetic style. The character’s edge and confidence pushed Tran into new territory, both musically and creatively.
“One of the biggest challenges playing this role was rapping…. throughout the movie that is me rapping in the songs LMAO.”
For the first time, Tran fully embraced the persona of a rapper, committing hours in the recording studio to perfect her sound and delivery.
“I didn’t want to just like, go in and just kind of wing it, you know,” she told Black Girl Nerds.
Dedicated to authenticity, she spent more than six hours recording her tracks and credited a close friend for guiding her through the process.
